…is it a hat?
No, it’s a leek flower!
We didn’t get around to eating these leeks that were planted last year so they’ve sat in their raised bed growing away merrily. Once I saw the minaret-like buds forming, I abandoned plans to dig them up and left them to flower. I’m quite pleased I did as their mauve pompom flowers are really eyecatching.
In other allium news, I’ve been harvesting shallots and garlic this week. I’m so impressed by the elephant garlic which completely dwarfs the regular bulbs and looks like it belongs in some kind of prize veg competition. I’m really looking forward to putting them all to good use in the kitchen.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend…
